While the House of Representatives passed a resolution on Wednesday to transfer the two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate, the US President seemed to have bigger problems on his mind this week: household appliances.
At a campaign rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday, Trump railed against the Department of Energy for tightening energy efficiency standards for dishwashers, refrigerators and lightbulbs, particularly those that limit water usage.
“Sinks, toilets, and showers – you don’t get any water,” he said. “Remember the dishwasher? You’d press it, boom! There’d be, like, an explosion. Five minutes later you open it up, the steam pours out,” adding that women across the country now have to wash their dishes “10 times”
The President promised the crowd that under his presidency, their “dishes will be beautiful”.
Sounds laughable right? But the speech has a darker undertone.
The Trump administration has slowly been dialing back measures designed to save energy since taking office in 2017, such as new energy efficient standards for light bulbs.
Guess Americans had better prepare for the war on dishwashers next.
