Most of us can say we’ve eaten some pretty awful food while in the air.
But Malaysian carrier AirAsia is so sure that people are actually fans of their in-flight meals, they’ve opened a restaurant so you can enjoy the experience of avoiding the dodgy-looking ‘chicken’ dinner on the ground.
The Santan Restaurant and T&CO Café has just opened at a mall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with around 30% of the menu identical to the one the budget airline serves up in the sky and a team of chefs spending nine months developing the rest of the meals.
In a press release, the restaurant’s General Manager, Catherine Goh, said: “We have seen a significant appetite for our in-flight menu offerings beyond our flights across the region and this is our answer to that demand.”
The company is so confident the new concept will take off (sorry, couldn’t help myself), they plan to open another five restaurants in 2020.
They may be onto something – research has shown our perception of salty and sweet flavors drops by 30% at high altitudes so theoretically, the meals at Santan should taste better.
I guess I’ll just have to head to Malaysia to put it to the test – I’ll bring my own snacks for the plane though!
