Helen Smith, Judy Beech and Barbara Dodd (pictured), thought to be the oldest living triplets in Australia, marked the milestone last month on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula with their families – who also include two sets of twins.
Born two-and-a-half months premature in 1929, their parents Ivy and Tom Houlihan (who already had two daughters) were apparently so surprised, they didn’t give their new daughters second names.
While not identical, the sisters told the ABC they have always enjoyed a “special connection” and even as adults, spent nights together and spoke on the phone almost every day.
Today, the trio say family, exercise and just being happy are their secret to a long life.
“They don’t get out on the course now as much as they would like to but spend a lot of their time there doing lunches and playing bridge with their friends,” Judy’s daughter, Gillian Beech said.
“They love a punt on the horses and love their daily VB.”
The triplets also now have 35 offspring – and say their fondest memories are of their family.
“Just all being together … and laughter,” Ms Smith said.
