The President announced on Monday that he will remove Secret Service director Randolph “Tex” Alles from his position, just one day after Kirstjen Nielsen, the Homeland Security secretary, resigned (forcibly).
That makes Alles the fifteenth (yes, 1-5) member of the President’s Cabinet to resign, be fired or move on to another role. And that’s not accounting for the 66 per cent (two thirds!) of all senior-level staffers who have left the White House since Trump came into office.
But is that turnover really as bad as it sounds? Well, sort of.
In his first presidential term (1,460 days) Barack Obama lost nine Cabinet secretaries, while George W. Bush lost only four. Trump has lost his 15 in 808 days.
But in terms of senior staff, Trump’s rate of attrition isn’t too bad. Obama turned over a massive 71 per cent of staff across his full two-term run, and Bush also managed a 63 per cent leaving rate.
Either way, the President doesn’t seem worried about attracting new talent.
“Everybody wants to work in this White House . . . We are a hot country. This is a hot White House.”
