The Home Modification Information Clearinghouse (HMInfo) is an information service that helps people to navigate and complete essential home modification choices such as putting in a lift or ramp.

The HMInfo has developed user-friendly materials that provide practical support and empowers individuals to stay in their home longer.

It is also updated whenever there is a change in legislation, and curates the latest home-modification products as soon as they hit the market – giving older people a wide range of choices to best suit their needs.

It’s the creation of UNSW Built Environment Professor Catherine Bridge who came up with the service because she believes current home design isn’t “inclusive” for older people.

She says research shows modifying people’s homes can reduce the need for care by 47 per cent and lead to a 40 per cent improvement in a person’s quality of life.

Sounds like a welcome service to us.
