In a mammoth two-hour and two-minute address at the Conservative Political Action Committee Conference (CPAC), the president took the chance to praise himself several times for his ability to go “off script”, saying it was “how he got elected” – but not before he began the event by hugging the American flag.
The speech – filled with many spontaneous tangents and improvisations – is officially the longest presidential oration in US history, and Trump managed to hit a lot of topics during his lengthy time on stage.
First, he called the ongoing Mueller investigation into his own potential criminal activity “phony”, before dismissing his request for Russia to illegally-hack Hillary Clinton’s emails during the 2016 election as “just a joke”.
In a bizarre product plug, Trump also praised TiVo (a program-recorder that has been around for 20 years) as “one of the great inventions in history”.
And he didn’t stop there. Politifact has released an article fact-checking several blatantly incorrect or out-of-context statements made by the President during his speech.
We’d suggest you just go back and watch the whole thing – but who’s got that kind of time?
