The 58 residents at the Benjamin Short Grove aged care home held their second annual flower show earlier this month as part of the Community Greening initiative run through Sydney’s Royal Botanic Garden.
Community Greening’s Elizabeth Docking has been running monthly workshops at the Grove teaching plant propagation to create artwork for the home’s garden – and it’s having real benefits.
Ms Docking said that one of the residents who suffers from dementia and is regularly in tears had a “huge smile” on her face throughout the flower show.
In fact, the Community Greening program has been such a success that the facility plans to install a sand therapy bed in the gardens this year – and residents will be continuing to hone their gardening skills to enter the 2019 Orange Agricultural Show.
We wish them the best of luck!
