Unicharm, Japan’s biggest nappy manufacturer, say its sales for adult products surpassed those for babies back in 2011.
In 2016, the “adult incontinence” market in Japan was valued at $1.8 billion.
Now, they may just become more eco-friendly and easier.
Japan’s Ministry of Land and Infrastructure has developed the world’ first “flushable” nappy, with a potential prototype coming this year.
This prototype separates the waste from the nappy itself, flushing only material that is not harmful to the environment. It also takes away the physical labour for carers who dispose of the products manually – potentially benefiting hundreds of thousands of carers.
We’re hoping to see a model ready for trial very soon.
