Benetas bringing a new look to aged care in Victoria

Dalkeith Hostel, in Traralgon, is undergoing an expansion and refurbishment which will support Benetas’ new model of care which is to create an individualised experience of ageing by focusing on personalised care, allowing the individual more choice than ever before.

Each apartment will house approximately 8 residents who will share a living room, kitchen and dining area and have its own carers allowing for meaningful relationships with residents.

“All aspects of care are to be aligned with our person-centred model, where our residents are at the centre of everything we do,” says Benetas’ General Manager Residential Services, Paula Trood.

“The new model provides them with an environment where they make the decisions on what their ageing experience will look like.”

Other features of the expansion include communal facilities such as café and sports bar, hairdresser, library, worship room, lounges, courtyards and terraces suitable for alfresco dining. Once the expansion is complete the existing building will undergo a facelift to refect the new model of care.

Dalkeith residents such as Mrs Smith are looking forward to the new living areas and increased independence with a projected move in date of late May.

A practising aged care physiotherapist for the past 13 years, Jill has worked in more than 50 metropolitan and regional aged care homes. She has also toured care facilities across the US and Africa. She is a passionate advocate for both the residents in aged care and the staff that serve them.
