Would you open your home to someone with a disability? South Australian provider puts call out for carers

0

Homelink SA is an initiative run by the not-for-profit Uniting Communities that pairs people with an available room at home and some spare time to provide a break for someone with a disability and respite for their full-time carers.

Carers are matched with people depending on their schedule, interests and availability – and while a qualification or experience of working in a caring, health or teaching profession is appreciated, Uniting says what’s more important is the right attitude and values.

Clare, from Brighton, has provided an occasional home for Hannah, who has an intellectual disability, for over 10 years. Check out their story here.

“There’s a real need for more people to get involved and we’ve seen first-hand just how life-changing the benefits can be for everyone involved,” she says.

You can care for someone on a full-time, respite or shared care basis and anyone – single people, adults and families – can become a carer once you have undertaken the required government and Homelink SA screening and induction processes.

To find out more about the program, contact Uniting on (08) 8202 5291 or email them at homelink@unitingcommunities.org.
