Only in Australia: Pauline Hanson tried to pass ‘it’s okay to be white’ motion – and the Government backed it (by mistake)

Usually it’s America under our microscope, but this week we just couldn’t let our own Government slide by without a mention.

The motion put forward by the Pauline Hanson’s One Nation senator – who maintains “anti-white racism” is rife in our society – was narrowly defeated 31 votes to 28 only after several cross-bench senators including the Greens and independent Derryn Hinch rejected it.

The phrase “it’s okay to be white” was originally used on the online image board 4chan – which includes far-right and extremist content – and has also been linked to the white supremacist movement.

The vote result was met with disbelief by fellow senators and political pundits.

The Coalition’s leader in the Senate Finance Minister Mathias Cormann was quick to backpedal, blaming the “regrettable” vote on an “administrative error” for supplying senators with the wrong advice.

The Government also ordered a second vote and joined Labor in turning the bill down, but really –isn’t it their job to know exactly what they’re voting on?

We hope they’re paying more attention now – otherwise we might find ourselves with an immigration policy that favours “European Christians”.

Now that sounds a lot like another country we know.

  1. Its 4 Chan. Seriously does anyone not know who these people are? Apart from the Cooking and Literary sections of the forum you will find a ton of trolls and s***posters. The “It’s ok to be white” campaign is to get a rise out of the feminists and far left activists out there to campaign against the notion that “it’s ok to be white”. Which it is. Just like it’s ok to be black, Asian or a 8 fingered purple alien from the Andromeda Quadrant.
