Feros Care surprised Byron Bay local Margaret Fisher during a training session last week with a cheque to sponsor her bid to travel to Croatia this month for the 2018 World Super Seniors Tennis Championships, where she is again competing for gold.
Ranked number one in Australia in the 85-plus age group, the great-grandmother took out silver in the singles at the 2016 world championships before winning gold in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles at last year’s event in Florida.
Margaret had played at Wimbledon in 1953 before putting the sport on hold to work and raise a family. Picking up her racquet again later in life, she now trains or plays five days a week and says she feels fitter and stronger than she did in her 50s and 60s.
“Returning to the court is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” Margaret said.
“It’s not only kept me active but given me a sense of confidence that has opened up a whole new world of interests.”
The 2018 Super-Seniors World Team Championships are on from September 16-22. We wish Margaret all the best in flying the flag for us.
