Monarchists rejoice: we’re all entitled to a portrait of the Queen – for free

Yes, it’s true. Every citizen of this fair country is entitled to the unexpected perk under the government-funded “constituents’ request program” which was introduced in 1990 according to VICE.

The scheme makes Aussies eligible to receive “nationhood material” such as Aussie flags, recordings of the National Anthem and of course, your very own Liz portrait – and all you must do is email your local MP.

We’re also the only Commonwealth country entitled to the portrait, which shows her Maj wearing a “wattle spray” brooch, given to her by then-PM Robert Menzies during her first royal visit to Australia in 1954 – UK citizens must buy them (suckers) and Canadians can only download them.

If you’re a big fan of the royals, you can also request a portrait of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh but sadly pics of Will and Kate, and Harry and Meghan are out.

Still, Aussies can’t resist a freebie – we’re thinking that Australia Post is in for a bumper month.

The Queen Liz portrait available to all Aussies
