Welcome news: soon you’ll be able to see what home care clients think of their provider

The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA) has started piloting a program so residents and their families will be able to read and compare consumers’ experience of different home care providers.

As part of its interviews to accredit services, home care recipients will be asked a series of questions developed by the Australian Institute for Primary Care and Ageing (AIPCA) at La Trobe University based on the eight themes that their research showed are important to people.

This included being in control of choosing services, receiving care from someone that you can build rapport with; and having information on understanding care entitlements and support with managing services.

The AACQA is also trialling new ways to allow people using home care and aged care services to provide feedback including telephone interviews, online (or hard copy) surveys before visits, and face-to-face interviews during visits to services.

A good way to ensure that everyone can have their say about the support they receive – and find the provider that’s the best fit for them.

A practising aged care physiotherapist for the past 13 years, Jill has worked in more than 50 metropolitan and regional aged care homes. She has also toured care facilities across the US and Africa. She is a passionate advocate for both the residents in aged care and the staff that serve them.
