When age isn’t just a number: retirement village and aged care provider celebrates record number of centenarians

0

Peninsula Villages’ three villages on the NSW Central Coast are now home to six members of the ‘Centenarians Club’ as the residents – Norma Peterson (100), Dot Devine (104), Biddy Abrahams (101), Edna Burt (101), Mabel Laidlaw (100) and Frances Dawson (100) – call themselves.

The organisation marked their collective 606 years last month with a special high tea, with the women reminiscing about living through more than 23 Australian Prime Ministers, two World Wars and the Great Depression as well as times spent with their families, friends and fellow residents.

What’s their secret?

While the six women receive different levels of support, they are all still actively involved in their village’s activities and special events.

“It must be mentioned that none of the Centenarians had turned 100 before they joined us here at Peninsula Villages, perhaps our services are the secret ingredient to longevity!” CEO Shane Neaves jokes.

Jokes aside, this is clearly just another chapter for the Club members.
