Dreaming big: new fund to help aged care residents tick off their ‘bucket lists’

The Imagine Fund has been set up by the Mercy Health Foundation to help their aged care residents and home care clients reach their goals – even if they don’t have the family or financial support.

So far, residents in 36 Mercy homes have enjoyed adventures including Tiger Moth flights, Harley Davidson motorcycle joy rides, a scenic helicopter flight and a trip to the Frankston Sand Sculpture Festival.

Mercy resident Margaret Vears says watching her beloved St Kilda Football Club team play again is at the top of her bucket list.

“Watching the game on TV is the highlight of my week. Everyone knows not to panic if I have no voice after a win,” she says. “I would love [to]maybe even give one or two of them a sneaky kiss on the cheek for good luck.”

We think it’s a great cause. Why should you give up on your dreams just because you’ve entered aged care?
