Retirement without compromise: NSW retirement village is Australia’s best

0

Wivenhoe Village at Kirkham Rise in Cobbitty, 60km southwest of the Sydney CBD, has been named Best Retirement Living Development at the Property Council of Australia 2018 Awards.

One of the homes at Wivenhoe

The village, designed by boutique village developer Mbark in partnership with the land’s owners Sisters of the Good Samaritan, was opened five years ago and includes 149 single-storey two- and three-bedroom homes set on 120 hectares of woodlands.

The site is also home to the Lodge, a community centre with an indoor heated swimming pool, gym, library and cinema – fantastic facilities, but not so different from other villages.

So what sets Wivenhoe apart?

Mbark says the homes have been designed to allow residents to age in place, and be easily adapted to suit their needs.

The village also has over seven kilometres of walking trails and cycleways, and is close to shops, community facilities, hospitals and churches to appeal to those who have lived on larger lots and want to downsize.

It’s working too – there are just seven new homes still available. Better get in quick.
