Aussie scientists are creating the world’s first beer for space? Of course they are

We’ve invented some of the world’s best-known inventions – the pacemaker, the cochlear implant and even the Hills Hoist – but this may be the one that tops them all.

Vostok’s Space Beer

Founded by Sydney’s 4 Pines Brewing Company and space engineering company Saber Astronautics seven years ago, Vostok are on a mission to bring beer to space – from developing the recipe to manufacturing a bottle that will allow space travellers to ‘pour’ the drink in the same way you would back on Earth – a prototype they are currently testing.

Until now scientists have struggled to create a beer for zero gravity conditions. In a previous experiment, Russian cosmonauts were given freeze dried beer cubes (naturally they traded these in for vodka and brandy).

Vostok says they now hope to have the beer available to people on commercial spaceflights by 2019.

It definitely puts a new spin on having a cold one.
