The US President claims that a group of 1,200 Honduran immigrants travelling through Mexico to the US border wants to apply for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
In fact, Trump terminated the program last September so only existing ‘Dreamers’ as they are known, can renew their permits. The program, introduced by Barack Obama, and protected thousands of young immigrants from deportation and allowed them to work in the US.
The President gave the US Congress six months to pass legislation to keep it in, but with no deal done yet, he’s also blaming the Democrats for failing to pass new immigration laws that would have ensured the program was continued.
“DACA is dead because the Democrats didn’t care or act … Must build Wall and secure our borders with proper Border legislation. Democrats want No Borders, hence drugs and crime!” he tweeted.
Considering Trump turned down six different DACA deals from Congress – including a few that actually included funding for his border wall with Mexico – we’d say there’s only one person to blame.
