102-year-old US retirement village resident sets world zipline record

Californian man Glenn Quillin celebrated his 102nd birthday in style, setting the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to ride a zip line.

A resident at the Carlsbad retirement community, the adrenaline junkie travelled at speeds of up to 80km per hour on all three of the ‘extreme’ ziplines at the La Jolla Zip Zoom Park in Pauma Valley, breaking the previous record held by a 90-year-old.

Mr Quillin does have a reputation as a daredevil. In 2016, he marked his 100th birthday by skydiving – and he’s already planning his next adventure. The Guinness World Record for the oldest skydiver is 102 so Mr Quillin wants to break that record next year when he turns 103.

“I have my eye on that airplane,” he told the LA Times. “I wouldn’t mind doing that again, not one bit.”
